Confidence
For a long long time I struggled with confidence issues, but i'm getting over them. gradually. The main issue i had was to do with body confidence, i really didn't like my body. Just everything about it, i just didn't like it. This was mainly because people around me always labelled me as 'fat' and i believed them, so i went through stages where i didn't care about my weight and i would binge, and then i would fast and starve myself when i really wanted to get thin. This obviously wasn't healthy for my body, but I'm lucky that i haven't had any long lasting consequences for my actions. but i got over it, and now i eat a balanced healthy diet (with several cheat days were i eat loads of cookies and sweets) and i exercise fairly regularly, i'm not skinny, and i'm not fat, I'm happy with my weight.
Due to my naturally pale skin and going through puberty i suffered from more noticeable acne problems, meaning that when i got spots they would show up more clearly. And still now at the age of 18 i still have spots, but they are a lot less common and due to medication and cream supplied by my doctor they are mo under control and under doctor guidance i have even used a sun bed a couple of times which has meant that my skin has cleared up a lot more and the spots i do get are less noticeable. I'm not saying that if you have spots go and use a sun bed and it well help, because it may not and you have to be 18 to use them (well at least you do in the UK) and i know the risks of skin cancer and all but that risk is so low as i've only ever used them about twice over several months. And now i feel more confident about my skin as i know that my spots aren't as noticeable and i generally feel healthier.
Something i always found daunting was public speaking, i literally could not stand speaking in front of crowds, I would go bright red in the face and my knees would shake and i would sweat and then my voice would start to shake. because i've been involved with acting projects such as Henry VIII the musical and other plays and musicals i've learnt that when speaking intron of people you don't have to be yourself, you can pretend to be someone else just for those few minutes while you're speaking, so i distract myself from the group of people in front of me. Yeah i still feel nervous and go a bit red, but i'm improving and i find it easier with every time i do it and one do i might be able to do it without any effect of nerves or redness in the face. It will get easer, you just need practice.
Academia. I was always told that i was a 'bright kid' going through school and i never understood why. In lessons i would usually stay very quiet and if i knew the answer i wouldn't usually put my hand up to answer because i was afraid of what other people in the class might say. my lack in self-confidence meant that i got stuck in a science class that was below my ability and prevented me from getting an even better overall grade than i could of. I let other hold me back, but in actual fact it was myself who was holding me back. Now being in my last year of school before university my confidence allows me to say the answers allowed and even if they're wrong i play it off as a joke and say 'just kidding' and then guess another answer and sometimes it makes people laugh, and that makes me happy. knowing that i can make people laugh because i can finally be myself.
So overal, what i'm trying to tell you is don't let your insecurities and lack of self confidence hold you back. If you want to do something - DO IT, the only person holding you back is yourself and i know that one day you will achieve something great and you will be an even more awesome person than you are today, and maybe one day i'll get to meet you and see how awesome and cool you are.
